Taipei Customs Urges Importers Not to Do Cross-Border Online Shopping for Meat Products During Mid-Autumn Festival

As Mid-Autumn Festival is approaching, Taipei Customs calls on importers not to do cross-border online shopping for moon cakes or other food containing quarantined meat products. At the same time, forward the message to your friends or family not to mail pork or processed meat products to Taiwan, so as not to be penalized.

Taipei Customs further stated that imported moon cakes or other products containing meat are subject to quarantine. Importers should comply with the Act on the Prevention and Control of Infectious Animal Diseases before importing these meat products. Taipei Customs suggest importers may consult with the Animal and Plant Inspection and Quarantine Office, the Ministry of Agriculture to better understand the process of quarantine before importation. Violators will be punished in accordance with the aforementioned Act. Those containing meat products have the high risk of spreading animal diseases, such as African swine fever. Once the infected meat products are brought into Taiwan, it may have a huge impact on the domestic animal husbandry and related industries.

In order to prevent African swine fever, Taipei Customs will continue to intercept pork or processed meat products from abroad. All of these seized pork or processed products will be forwarded to the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Agency, Ministry of Agriculture for review. Taipei Customs calls on importers to cooperate with the government to prevent infectious disease such as African swine fever from entering Taiwan.
