1. If you want to import protected wildlife governed by the Wildlife Conservation Act of Taiwan, you will have to acquire an import permit issued by the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) or Ocean Affairs Council (OAC), Executive Yuan. For importing aquatic animals, import permits may be exempted only if they are included in the Appendix of Article 2 of the Directions Governing Review of Application for Permission to Import/ Export Terrestrial Live Wildlife and its Products, or the Directions Governing Review of Application for Permission to Import/ Export Marine Live Wildlife and its Products respectively. If the species is not included in these two appendices, importers will have to obtain an import permit issued by the MOA or OAC.
If the animals are also listed as endangered species of wild fauna subject to CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora), CITES certificates issued by the exporting country are required. In addition, if the imported goods are subject to quarantine under the Statute for Prevention and Control of Infectious Animal Disease, the importer will have to apply for quarantine inspection to Animal and Plant Health Inspection Agency (APHIA), MOA.
2.If the species are regulated by the Wildlife Conservation Act or listed on the Appendices of CITES, importers who file the entry will have to fill in both the scientific name and common name of the species, as well as the certificate number of CITES permit.
