The International Trade Administration , Ministry of Economic Affairs(ITA) stated that Mainland China-made snail rice noodles are not allowed to be imported into Taiwan, and has requested all sales channels, including e-commerce platforms, to immediately remove them from the shelves in accordance with the law. However, the ITA has been receiving information from the public about individuals or online sellers selling Mainland China-made snail rice noodles through online platforms and Facebook. Customs will continue to strengthen inspections on the importation of Mainland China-made snail rice noodles and other related rice noodle products.

    According to Article 7 of the Regulations Governing Trade between the Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area, goods originating in Mainland China are prohibited for importation to Taiwan except for items and terms designated and announced by the ITA may be imported on a general basis or special approval. Currently the Ministry of Economic Affairs has neither approved the importation of Mainland China-made snail rice noodles nor issued any other special permits on these items. Selling Mainland China-made snail rice noodles on the market has violated relevant import regulations. In addition to confiscation of goods and penalties pursuant to the Customs Anti-Smuggling Act, the violators may be transferred to the ITA for punishment under the Act Governing Relations between the People of the Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area. Any violation of the Act Governing Food Safety and Sanitation will also be transferred to local health authorities for punishment.

    Taichung Customs called on the public to raise awareness of food safety and not to buy or sell unapproved imported food products. Before importing Chinese agricultural products and food, importers should consult with the ITA to verify whether these products are legally permitted for importation to avoid penalties. Customs will continue to strengthen inspections on the border and cooperate with relevant agencies to conduct market inspections to safeguard the food safety of the public.
