Prevent African Swine Fever! Taichung Customs Urges the Public Not to Bring or Send Pork Products to Taiwan

In response to the pesistent global spread of African Swine Fever (ASF) stringent measures are implemented to safeguard domestic livestock industry and maintain food security. Taichung Customs urges the public not to bring or send pork and its products to Taiwan from abroad to avoid violating the law.

ASF is a highly fatal and infectious animal disease that has spread to 82 nations globally, with 19 Asian countries reporting outbreaks, showing the seriousness of the international epidemic. Taiwan was recognized by the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) as an ASF-free country on October 31, 2024, becoming one of the two ASF-free countries in East Asia. This is the result of years of joint efforts. Taichung Customs will continue to conduct inspections, implementing 100% X-ray screening of all incoming parcels to prevent the ASF virus from entering the country.

Taichung Customs states that for importing pork and its products from epidemic areas, the competent authority could fine first-time violators NT$200,000 and fine repeat violators up to NT$1,000,000.
