Self-Provided Bonded Warehouses Shall Proactively Provide Sufficient Guarantees for Bonded Goods Stored in the Warehouse

Taichung Customs indicated that enterprises approved to establish self-use bonded warehouses can qualify for deferred tax payment on goods stored in these warehouses. This offers them a competitive advantage in terms of asset liquidity and market competitiveness compared to other enterprises. However, the basis for deferred tax payment is that enterprises must provide sufficient guarantees to the customs in advance. If the guarantee is insufficient to cover the deferred taxes and enterprises fail to proactively supplement it, they may be penalized.

Taichung Customs explained that some enterprises might not fully understand the calculation of guarantees for self-use bonded warehouses. In principle, the guarantee amount for the first three years of operation is NT$6 million , and it is adjusted to NT$3 million after three years. However, if the taxes on bonded goods stored in the warehouse, combining with the taxes on goods moved out of the warehouse for sale to taxed area manufacturers reported on a monthly basis , exceed the stipulated NT$6 million or NT$3 million guarantee during the initial periods, enterprises should proactively provide sufficient guarantees based on the involved taxes.

Taichung Customs reminded that failure to proactively supplement the guarantee may result in warnings or fines ranging from NT$6,000 to NT$30,000, along with a requirement to rectify within a specified period. Failure to rectify by the deadline will lead to further penalties. Enterprises are urged to implement internal control systems to avoid violations and protect their interests.
