To strengthen enforcement capabilities while maintaining clearance efficiency, Customs utilizes X-ray inspection systems to support cargo examination. In addition to deploying Container Inspection Machines for non-intrusive inspection of maritime containers, Customs has introduced handheld X-ray inspection devices in response to increasingly diverse smuggling methods. Leveraging their mobility, light weight, and real-time scanning capabilities, these devices enable preliminary identification of cargo that cannot be examined with large-scale equipment, allowing officers to more effectively target high-risk items for further inspection. This approach not only enhances enforcement efficiency but also reduces time and cost burdens on traders.
Since 2023, Customs offices have deployed a total of 11 handheld X-ray inspection devices. To strengthen officers’ operational proficiency and image-interpretation skills, and to maximize equipment utilization, Customs continues to provide relevant competency training. These courses cover imaging principles, image-interpretation techniques, and practical operational experience sharing, ensuring that handheld X-ray inspection devices can fully support Customs examination operations.
