How are import and export currency exchange rates determined? How can one check the import/export currency exchange rates?

The import and export declaration exchange rates are compiled by Customs every ten-day period, that is three times a month (the first, second, and third ten-day periods of each month). The exchange rate applicable to each ten-day period is based on the exchange rate announced by the Bank of Taiwan on the mid-point date of the preceding ten-day period (the 5th, 15th, or 25th of each month; if any of these dates fall on a holiday, the preceding business day shall apply). For currencies not quoted by the Bank of Taiwan, the exchange rate shall be calculated based on the closing exchange rate of the foreign currency against the U.S. dollar in New York, as published in the Economic Daily News, on the mid-point date of the preceding ten-day period. The Bank of Taiwan’s “selling exchange rate” shall be used as the exchange rate for import declarations, while the Bank of Taiwan’s “buying exchange rate” shall be used as the exchange rate for export declarations.

For the applicable foreign currency exchange rates used for customs declarations for each ten-day period, please refer to the Customs Administration website under the Single Window section: “Exchange Rate”
